What happens

Betty Anderson tells her new friend Ellery Carstairs that her family is from Georgia, a story that soon grows too big to keep up. Ellery, visiting Springfield from Memphis for the New Year's football game, has been invited to dinner at the Anderson home on Maple Street. Father Jim, mother Margaret and the younger children Bud and Kathy must decide whether to back up Betty's invented southern background or let the truth come out. Robert Young plays Jim Anderson in this episode of the family comedy Father Knows Best, which aired on January 1, 1953.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
