What happens

Jim Anderson comes home to find his family in a state over Betty's new interest in Roger Van Norton, whom she has invited to Sunday dinner with his family. The Andersons are unsure how to welcome the wealthy visitors, and the living room has become a point of concern. Jim agrees to a plan to repaint the room himself rather than hire an expensive decorator, and the project quickly goes wrong. Margaret, Betty, Bud and Kathy each have their own reactions as the guests arrive. The Father Knows Best series, starring Robert Young as Jim, aired on January 18, 1951, and this episode is a domestic comedy about family pride and minor mishaps.

The Anderson house on Maple Street in Springfield, in the living room and den, on a Sunday.

Listen for: Jim's attempt to repaint the living room himself, and the guests' arrival for Sunday dinner.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
