What happens

Father Knows Best follows the Anderson family of Maple Street on a Friday morning in 1953, recorded as a half-hour episode aired May 21, 1953. Jim Anderson, the father, tells his wife Margaret that running the school mothers club's paper drive would be simple if approached like a business, and he is appointed chairman. Jim quickly finds the arrangements harder than he expected, with dates clashing with other events and the trucking company hard to pin down. Margaret, their children Betty, Bud and Kathy, and neighbors including the Phillipses and Ralph all become involved as the plans keep shifting.

Characters: Jim Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Betty Anderson, Bud Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Ralph, Joe Phillips, Mrs. Davis

Listen for: Jim's repeated claim that a simple, direct approach will get the paper drive done, and how the plans keep changing as the family and neighbors weigh in.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
