What happens
Father Knows Best is an old radio family comedy from March 6, 1952. Jim Anderson and his wife Margaret run their household on Maple Street, and their youngest daughter Kathy complains that she always gets the leftovers. To prove fairness, Jim promises that Kathy will receive everything her older sisters get. When Betty asks to invite a boy to dinner for Leap Year, Kathy demands the same right, and Jim phones a boy on her behalf. The invitation is misunderstood, and Howard White turns out to be a college student working at the school playground, leaving the two girls competing for his attention at the dinner table.
The Anderson home on Maple Street, a white frame house, on a Saturday during Leap Year Week.
Characters: Jim Anderson, Margaret Anderson, Kathy Anderson, Betty Anderson, Bud Anderson, Howard White, Mrs. White
Listen for: Kathy insisting that she be treated equally with Betty and Bud, and Jim's phone call inviting Howard White to dinner on her behalf.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
