What happens

Father Knows Best follows the Anderson family in their white frame house on Maple Street in Springfield. Jim Anderson, played by Robert Young, is the father who, along with his wife Margaret, has to deal with their youngest daughter Cathy, who feels that life as a girl is too limiting. Cathy, who begins calling herself Sam, wants to join the boys in the soapbox derby and go fishing. The family's plans are thrown into confusion as a photographer is due to visit the house and Jim and his son Bud are set to leave for a fishing trip. The episode is broadcast on NBC on May 1, 1952.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
