What happens

The Henderson family of Springfield starts an ordinary morning in a flurry of small complaints. Jim Henderson, the father, is irritated by Kathy's skates on the stairs and her request for two dollars to buy wings for a school play, and he refuses her. Bud wants the car for a picnic and is turned down. Later, Betty announces she intends to marry Billy Smith, and her parents and Billy's parents, Hector and Elizabeth Smith, must decide what to do about it. The episode is part of the Father Knows Best series, broadcast on December 20, 1948, with Robert Young in the lead.

Springfield, on Maple Street, an average American town and home

Characters: Jim Henderson, Margaret Henderson, Betty Henderson, Bud Henderson, Kathy Henderson, Billy Smith, Hector Smith, Elizabeth Smith

Listen for: Jim's stern attempts to keep order at breakfast, and the dinner at the Henderson house where Betty's engagement is discussed

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
