What happens

Escape presents Anthony Ellis's story The Abominable Snowman, first broadcast on September 13, 1953. Three climbers, Paul Ferris, Frank Davis and Alan, hire the Sherpa guide Nasang and set out to capture a yeti in the Himalayas. Local porters refuse to join them, and the expedition presses on with only four men. Wind, snow and a mysterious set of footprints lead the party into danger on the high glaciers, where the hunters find that the creature may be hunting them in turn.

The Himalayas, around Mount Everest and the Wrong Book valley, in Tibet and Nepal.

Characters: Paul Ferris, Alan, Frank Davis, Nasang

Listen for: The increasing sense of being followed on the mountain, and the sudden attack that leaves Frank Davis dead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
