What happens
Susan, a young wife, begins having recurring nightmares in which she watches a second version of herself flee from an unseen, terrifying presence on a dark staircase. Her husband Freddie tries to reassure her, and the dreams grow more vivid, blurring the line between sleep and waking. Susan visits a doctor, who suggests she is merely overtired and prescribes sedatives. Determined to avoid dreaming, she stays awake, and the dreams take an unsettling turn as she struggles to tell what is real. The episode is part of the Escape anthology series, originally broadcast on 1953-02-22, and this is the second part of a two-part story by Anthony Ellis.
A modern city home and a doctor's office, with the action shifting into Susan's dreams: a dark staircase, a stone passageway, and an airplane.
Characters: Susan, Freddie, Dr. Peters
Listen for: The second Susan who appears in Susan's dreams and how her voice and presence are described.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
