What happens
Susan and her husband Freddie live a quiet life until Susan begins having recurring nightmares in which she watches herself running from an unseen pursuer through a dark house and a stone passageway. The dreams grow more vivid, and Susan becomes convinced that a second woman, who may be her true self, lives inside her sleep. Concerned, Freddie takes her to a doctor, who attributes the dreams to fatigue and prescribes a sedative. Susan decides to stay awake to escape the dreams, but the dream world continues to pull at her. This is the first part of an Escape episode, originally broadcast on February 22, 1953.
A modern city apartment and a doctor's office, with Susan's dreams moving between a large dark staircase, a garden, an airplane, and a stone passageway.
Characters: Susan, Freddie, Dr. Peters
Listen for: Susan's voice splitting in her dreams, as she watches herself and hears a second woman speaking through her.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
