What happens

Anthony Dana, an American correspondent, is stranded in Chungking and seeks passage to Shanghai down the Yangtze River in the chaotic months after the war. A woman doctor he has just met arranges a steamer ticket for him, and aboard the ship he is caught up in a tense situation involving a secret document that must reach Shanghai. Soldiers, a missionary named Vickers and a captain named Radigan all take an interest in Dana, and he starts to suspect that he is being used for a purpose he does not understand. The story is set on the river, in a cramped boat, and in the crowded waterfronts along the route, and its sense of danger builds as the journey continues.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
