What happens

Escape presents Finger of Doom, first broadcast on March 19, 1949. Ray, a young man, waits outside a building while his fiancée Stephanie Riska delivers a package to an apartment. She vanishes inside, and when Ray goes up to find her, the apartment proves to be empty and locked, with no trace of anyone having been there. Ray turns to the building's janitor and then to Sergeant Gilman, who examines the apartment and the clues that follow. The story follows the search as Ray traces Stephanie's workplace, the press clipping service she worked for, and her rooming house, while the facts of who she is and what she has been doing grow increasingly confused.

A big city in the late 1940s, including an apartment building on Martin Street, a clipping service office, and a rooming house on Harrison Street

Characters: Ray, Stephanie Riska, Sergeant Gilman, Mr. Hessen, Mr. Miller, Calhoun

Listen for: The apartment on Martin Street, where Ray insists Stephanie went in, and the contradictions Gilman uncovers about the building and the girl

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
