What happens

Mining engineer Ibarra meets a ragged stranger on the steps of his shack in Quito, Ecuador. The man is Nunez, a guide Ibarra believed had died in a fall on the Andean peak of Paris-Gorapetola a year earlier. Nunez agrees to tell his story. Escape is a radio drama series, and this episode, starring Edmond O'Brien, is adapted from H. G. Wells' short story The Country of the Blind. It first aired on March 20, 1949.

Quito, Ecuador, and the high Andes mountains

Characters: Ibarra, Nunez, Samuel

Listen for: Nunez's account of his fall and his arrival in a hidden valley where the people are blind

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
