What happens

John Unger, a student at St. Midas Prep School, spends a summer vacation at the Montana estate of his classmate Percy Washington. Percy's family is wealthy beyond measure, and the estate is reached by a cable hoist and hidden from the outside world. As John grows close to Percy's sister Kismine, he begins to sense that something sinister lies behind the family's hospitality. The episode is from the Escape series, aired on 1948-08-29, and is adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's story The Diamond as Big as the Ritz, with William Conrad as the lead.

A remote, hidden estate on an isolated Montana plateau, reached by a cable hoist, with a great chateau, gardens and a secret cage.

Characters: John Unger, Percy Washington, Kismine Washington, Mr. Washington, Mrs. Washington, Giggson

Listen for: Percy's boast about his father's diamond as big as the Ritz, and the strange remarks about the cage and the guests who never leave.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
