What happens

Henry Heaton, a weary office worker, has a vivid dream in which he lives as Heaton, a powerful ruler in the distant future of 2200 AD, and falls in love with Norma. Caught between his dream life and his drab waking world, he learns that his decision to abandon his duties has helped bring war to the Mediterranean world. As the conflict spreads, the couple flee from one devastated place to another. This episode of Escape is based on H.G. Wells' story Dream of Armageddon, broadcast on 5 September 1948.

A dream set in 2200 AD on the island of Capri and across a war-torn Mediterranean world, alternating with the waking life of an office worker.

Listen for: The shift between the dream world and waking life, and the growing devastation of war as the couple flee across the Mediterranean.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
