What happens

Two adventurers, Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnehan, leave India with a pact to become kings in the remote land of Kafiristan. Years later, a newspaperman in India, the narrator, is visited by a broken and ragged Peachy, who begins to recount what happened to them. Peachy describes their journey into the mountains, where they are taken for gods by the tribespeople. The episode is based on Rudyard Kipling's story The Man Who Would Be King, and is part of the Escape series, first broadcast on August 1, 1948, with Ben Wright in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
