What happens

Two adventurers, Daniel Dravitt and Peachy Carnahan, leave India with a pact to become kings, and ask a newspaperman for maps of Kafiristan. Three years later Peachy returns alone to the newspaper office, broken and confused, and tells of their journey into the mountains. The two men are taken in by the hill people, who first treat them as gods, and Peachy struggles to recount what followed. This is the 1948 episode 048 of the Escape series, adapted from Rudyard Kipling's story The Man Who Would Be King, with Ben Wright and Wilms Herbert in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
