What happens

Lige Butterwick, a farmer from Lexington, Massachusetts, rides to Boston with a painful toothache and seeks a dentist. He is directed to Paul Revere, a silversmith who makes artificial teeth. In Boston he finds a tense town, with British warships in the harbor and soldiers in the streets. After being chased into a tar barrel and sheltering at Revere's shop, he takes a small silver box by mistake. He then tries to return it, and the story follows his ride through the night toward Lexington.

Lexington and Boston, Massachusetts, in the spring of 1775, during the lead-up to the American Revolution

Characters: Lige Butterwick, Paul Revere, William, Mrs. Butterwick, Neighbor Williams

Listen for: The tavern exchange with the stranger who shares Lige's politics, and the moment Lige realizes he is holding the wrong box

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
