What happens
Ybarra, a mountaineer, is surprised to find his old guide Nunez alive at the mine, years after Nunez seemed to have fallen to his death on the slopes of Peripsorda Petal. Nunez recounts how, after a fall during a climb, he landed on the snow of a hidden valley in the Andes. The valley's inhabitants have been blind for centuries, and they regard Nunez as an unformed, half-witted stranger. Nunez tries to make them understand his sight, but his efforts meet suspicion and resentment. Escape is an old-time radio anthology series, and this episode, broadcast on June 27, 1948, is an adaptation of H. G. Wells's story The Country of the Blind, with Paul Frees as Nunez and William Conrad as Ybarra.
A remote, hidden valley in the Andes, cut off by a great landslide and inhabited by a blind people, and the mining camp where Ybarra and Nunez meet.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
