What happens
Bo Jest, John Jest and Digby Jest are three brothers in England when the great blue sapphire goes missing from their guardian's house. Bo and Digby slip away that night, and John follows them to the French Foreign Legion in Algeria. Bo Jest and his brothers face harsh training under Sergeant Lejeune, a figure of cruelty and suspicion among the recruits. Sinister schemes and a tense standoff at a desert outpost mark the early stretch of the story. Escape was an American radio anthology series, and this episode, dated 6 June 1948, adapts P.C. Wren's novel Beau Geste. Barry Kroger and Wilms Herbert are among the cast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
