What happens

Professor Gildia, a self-sufficient scholar who claims to detest human affection, befriends the clergyman Father Murchison after a chance meeting at a church in London's East End. Their friendship grows over dinners in Gildia's book-lined study, where his grey parrot Napoleon chatters in the background. Gildia becomes convinced that an unseen presence has entered the house and is trying to show him affection. Father Murchison, who is skeptical, must decide how much of his friend's fears to believe. This broadcast of the Escape series, first aired on February 22, 1948, adapts a tale by Robert Hitchens and features Louis Van Ruten and Hardy Baire.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
