What happens

Arthur Llewellyn breaks his train journey home from Wales to spend a night in the remote village of Molten, where a stranger warns him away and the villagers seem to know him. The inn's guests and the townspeople treat him as someone returned after a long absence, and a woman named Ilsa presses him to remember a past he cannot recall. Strange music drifts up from the valley, and Arthur finds himself watched constantly as the village waits for him to decide. The story is part of the Escape radio series, broadcast nationally on February 15, 1948, and is adapted from Algernon Blackwood's tale of Ancient Sorceries.

The remote village of Molten on the Welsh border, in the late afternoon and night, and the surrounding countryside.

Characters: Arthur Llewellyn, Ilsa, Mrs. Llewellyn, the doctor, the stranger on the train

Listen for: Arthur's growing unease as the villagers insist he belongs there, and the eerie music from the valley below the village rampart.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
