What happens

Escape presents Snake Doctor, adapted from Irvin S. Cobb's story. A backwoods farmer, J.F. Mauna, and his son Finney go fishing near Cassier Creek, where they meet the snake doctor, a man who renders cottonmouth snake fat into oil and sells it. J.F. is afraid of snakes and resents the snake doctor, and he begins to make plans that involve the snake doctor's money. The broadcast was originally aired on February 14, 1948, and the lead roles are played by Bill Conrad and Louis Van Rooten.

A poor farming community in the southern mountains along Cassier Creek, with cabins, creek bottomland, and cottonmouth snakes.

Characters: J.F. Mauna, Finney, Snake Doctor, Kizzie Mauna, Tip Bailey, Dr. Bradshaw, Davis

Listen for: Listen for J.F. Mauna's scheming as he plans to use the snake doctor's money and the snake doctor's reaction when J.F. and Finney come to his cabin.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
