What happens

Ronald Dawson, a second-class passenger from Cedar Rapids, goes ashore at Mozambique with his shipmates Miss Patterson, Jones and Twitchell. He returns to a restaurant to retrieve a bronze idol Miss Patterson left behind, but a sudden tropical storm sends him lost through dark, muddy alleys. He takes refuge in a room where a woman and a heavy man are waiting in tense conversation with another man, and the situation quickly turns violent. Dawson is pulled into a desperate chase over the rooftops of the town, with police closing in. This is an episode of the radio series Escape, aired by CBS on 1948-01-10, with Harry Bartell as Dawson and Jeannette Nolan as the woman.

Mozambique, Portuguese East Africa, a port town of narrow alleys, rooftops and a waterfront harbor, at night during a heavy rainstorm

Characters: Ronald Dawson, Miss Patterson, Jones, Twitchell, Lazarus

Listen for: The sudden tropical rainstorm that leaves Dawson lost, and the tense exchange inside the dim room with the woman and the two men

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
