What happens
Ibarra, a mining engineer in Quito, Ecuador, is shaken when a man he thought dead appears at his mine. The man, Nunez, had fallen from a mountain during a failed climb of Periscotta Petal a year earlier. Ibarra listens as Nunez describes surviving the fall and reaching a hidden valley in the Andes. This is an episode of the radio series Escape, first broadcast on November 26, 1947, adapted from H. G. Wells's story The Country of the Blind. William N. Robeson produced and directed the program, and the lead actors are Paul Freese as Nunez and Bill Conrad as Ibarra.
The Andes mountains of Ecuador, including a mining camp near Quito and a remote, isolated valley whose inhabitants have been blind for generations.
Characters: Ibarra, Nunez, Madina Sorote, Pedro, Bogota
Listen for: Nunez's account of the valley and its people, and Ibarra's reaction as he hears it.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
