What happens
Young John Unger, a student at St. Midas Prep School, accepts an invitation from his friend Percy Washington to spend the summer at Percy's family estate in the Montana wilderness. Percy has boasted that his father owns a diamond as big as the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Reached by a strange journey, the estate proves to be a lavish, secluded world. John falls for Percy's sister Kismine, and he begins to notice the family's chilling secrets. This is the third episode of the CBS series Escape, adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story and broadcast on July 21, 1947.
A remote, hidden estate in the Montana wilderness, reached by a long journey and a cable hoist, built over a vast diamond hill.
Characters: John Unger, Percy Washington, Kismine Washington, Mr. Washington, Mrs. Washington, Giggson
Listen for: The moment John first sees the hidden estate and its wealth, and the strange hints about the cage and the family's secrets.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
