What happens
Duffy's Tavern is preparing for a visit from singer Rudy Vallee, whom Archie hopes will bring business and a radio broadcast from the tavern. Archie, Eddie the waiter, Miss Duffy and Finnegan fill the evening with banter about the summer, dusty furniture and mice. Rudy arrives, flatters Miss Duffy and sings a song, and Archie pitches him on moving his broadcast to the tavern. Duffy's Tavern is a radio comedy series with Ed Gardner and Shirley Booth, first broadcast on September 15, 1944. The transcript covers the first part of the episode only.
Duffy's Tavern, a Manhattan saloon
Characters: Archie, Duffy, Eddie, Finnegan, Miss Duffy, Rudy Vallee
Listen for: Archie's attempts to persuade Rudy Vallee to broadcast from the tavern, and Rudy's song
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
