What happens

Archie, the boisterous narrator of Duffy's Tavern, learns that Mickey Rooney will star in a television show he is writing, and he is sceptical about the new medium. Duffy's Tavern is the long-running radio comedy starring Ed Gardner. Archie tries out actors for his script, including Joe Moran, and then Mickey Rooney himself walks into the tavern, where the two men discuss television and show business. The episode is an original-run recording dated March 2, 1949, and Ed Gardner plays Archie.

Characters: Archie, Duffy, Eddie, Mickey Rooney, Joe Moran

Listen for: Archie's comic exchanges with Eddie about television and Mickey Rooney's arrival at the tavern

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
