What happens

Duffy's Tavern regular Archie visits the tavern with Deems Taylor, a composer and radio commentator, and it's Taylor who announces the program. Archie's own song, Leave Us Face It, is being arranged into a symphony by Peter Van Steeden, and Archie is eager to get into ASCAP, the songwriters' society, through the arrangement. The episode is part of the Duffy's Tavern series, a 1944 broadcast on CBS, NBC Blue and NBC, with Ed Gardner, Shirley Booth, Charlie Cantor and Florence Halop among the cast. Archie argues with Miss Duffy over whether women can compose music, and he pitches his song to Taylor, who mentions that he was let go from the Philharmonic, while the orchestra rehearses the symphonic version.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
