What happens
Duffy's Tavern is a comedy series, and this episode centres on Archie, the tavern's narrator, who is sitting at the bar with his friend Finnegan. Archie tries to persuade Finnegan that everyone should take an interest in world affairs, and that reading newspapers matters. He reads aloud a magazine account of famine in India, told through a reporter's visit to a relief station, and then a letter from a soldier's son in Italy describing hunger in the country. The episode aired on May 3, 1946, on CBS, NBC Blue and NBC, with Ed Gardner, Shirley Booth, Charlie Cantor and Florence Halop in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
