What happens
Archie, the cheerful but hapless employee of Duffy's Tavern, decides he wants to be an executive and run his own business. Duffy's Tavern is run by Ed Gardner's Archie and Shirley Booth's Miss Duffy, and the episode is from the OTRR Duffy's Tavern singles, first broadcast on September 21, 1950. Archie buys a small piece of radio equipment from his former partner Slippery Maguire and sets up an amateur radio station in the tavern, with Eddie and Clancy among the people around him. He plans advertising, theme songs and a disc jockey program, and Barry Nelson drops in to the tavern while the broadcast is being planned. The story follows Archie's plans and the mix of schemes and mishaps around them.
Duffy's Tavern, a neighborhood bar, and Archie's makeshift radio station set up in the tavern
Characters: Archie, Miss Duffy, Eddie, Clancy, Slippery Maguire, Barry Nelson
Listen for: Archie's plans to become an executive and run his own radio station, and his attempt to start broadcasting from the tavern
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
