What happens

Harry Underhill, president of Modern Mechanicals, watches his robot business collapse as customers cancel orders. His wife Aurora takes in a lodger, an elderly inventor named Professor Sledge, who claims to have applied for patents on a new field theory. Meanwhile, humanoid machines arrive from Wing 4 offering a free service that takes over household tasks, and Underhill is pressured to sign his property over to them. The first part of the story sets up this conflict between Underhill's household and the spreading humanoid service. Dimension X, original air date April 15, 1950.

The near future, around the year 2006, in an American town with a robot manufacturing business and a family home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
