What happens

Stunt woman Ione Reed prepares for dangerous film scenes on a Hollywood location. Director Gibson and his crew set up a runaway buckboard sequence on a rocky road, with nervous horses and a worn-out rig that the prop men have repaired. Reed agrees to the stunt despite her doubts about the team and the wagon. The episode of The Daredevils of Hollywood, first broadcast on May 2, 1938, follows her account of these shoots as she tells her own story to the interviewer Hal Stiles.

Hollywood, California, including Reed's apartment off Hollywood Boulevard, a rocky hill road, and a mountain road with sharp turns above a steep drop.

Characters: Ione Reed, Hal Stiles, Mr. Holtz, Rudy, Mr. Gibson, Bill, Joe, Harry

Listen for: The runaway buckboard scenes on the rocky road and the mountain road, and Reed's account of them in her interview with Hal Stiles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
