What happens

Comic Weekly Man, the jolly host of Puck the Comic Weekly, reads comic strips aloud to young listeners around Valentine's Day. He introduces Hopalong Cassidy, who recovers from being knocked unconscious while his friend Buckskin, shot through a window, describes a string of mysterious holdups and fires. Next comes Prince Valiant, whose hunting party sets out into rain-swollen country. Flash Gordon, Donald Duck and his nephews, Dick of Lewis and Clark's expedition, Rusty Riley, Dagwood and Blondie, and Roy Rogers follow, each with a cliffhanger. The episode is a sampler of the strips rather than a single plot, and the story lines are left unresolved at the close.

A radio program on Valentine's week, moving through comic strip worlds: the American frontier, Arthurian Britain, planet Mars, Lewis and Clark's journey up the Missouri, an English-style country estate, a suburban home, and a logging camp.

Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Hopalong Cassidy, Buckskin, Prince Valiant, Flash Gordon, Donald Duck, Louie, Huey

Listen for: The announcer's cheerful patter introducing each comic and the strips' dramatic cliffhanger endings.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
