What happens
The Comic Weekly Man reads the funnies from Puck the Comic Weekly to a young listener named Miss Honey, who proves she can spell the long word Tennessee. He then reads the first installment of Hopalong Cassidy, in which a cavalry escort taking the prisoner Black John to Denver is attacked by Indians at a stage stop. Hoppy rides up with reinforcements to find the soldiers dead, and he vows to pursue the renegades. The broadcast also reads a Prince Valiant story about a peace agreement between Thule and Orkney, followed by a Flash Gordon episode in which the Earth people escape their captors. Dagwood and Blondie, Roy Rogers, Alice in Wonderland, Dick's Adventures and Rusty Riley round out the segment.
A radio broadcast of the comics, with stories set in the American West, the Dark Ages of Britain, Mars, a suburban home, Wonderland, early nineteenth-century Tripoli and a county fair.
Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Miss Honey, Hopalong Cassidy, Black John, Prince Valiant, Flash Gordon, Queen Mentor, Dale
Listen for: The Comic Weekly Man's spelling test with Miss Honey, and the opening Hopalong Cassidy story as the cavalry is ambushed.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
