What happens

The Comic Weekly Man reads the funny pages aloud to his young listeners in this 1951 broadcast. He opens with a riddle about a pair of shoes, then reads from several strips: Hopalong Cassidy, who sets a trap for ghost raiders who tried to kill him, Prince Valiant, where Val tries to cheer up his squire Arn by introducing him to a young lady on board ship, and Donald Duck, who loses a set of golf clubs in a river while golfing with his nephew Huey. Also read are Dagwood and Blondie, with a bathtub mishap involving green dye, and Roy Rogers, Flash Gordon and Dick's Adventures with Daniel Boone, each left with its cliffhanger unresolved. The broadcast ends with Rusty Riley discovering a girl who has been secretly hiding a horse. Original air date 15 July 1951.

A radio broadcast reading comic strips aloud to children, with segments set in the Old West, medieval Britain, a golf course, a suburban home, outer space and frontier America.

Listen for: The Comic Weekly Man's riddle about a pair of shoes at the start, and the cliffhanger endings of the adventure strips.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
