What happens

The Comic Weekly Man reads the funnies from Puck the Comic Weekly to a young listener, Miss Honey, who has been lighting firecrackers safely with a long stick. The program reads the comic strip Beetle Bailey, in which Beetle is sent to find Captain Scabbard, who has slipped off to a ball game while the General arrives to inspect the camp. The reading then moves on to other strips, including Walt Disney's The Sword and the Rose, Roy Rogers, Flash Gordon, Dagwood and Blondie, Donald Duck, Dick's Adventures, and Rusty Riley, which stops at a cliffhanger. The episode ends with the host promising to return the next week.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
