What happens
The Comic Weekly Man reads comic strips to young listeners on a Thanksgiving-week broadcast of Comic Weekly Man, first aired November 23, 1952. He introduces Beetle Bailey, where Killer Diller and Beetle are in town on pass, and a squirrel sends two dogs running through the park, leaving Killer on his knees picking up leaves while Beetle wins a blonde's thanks. Next comes Flash Gordon, where Queen Vicki and Flash escape a blue monster on Venus and face a storm. Robin Hood, Dagwood and Blondie, Dick's Adventures, Rusty Riley, Roy Rogers and Brimstone, and Uncle Remus close out the reading. The broadcast stops each story at a cliffhanger, promising the next installment.
A living room on Thanksgiving week, where the Comic Weekly Man reads comic strips aloud over the radio, with stories set in a park, on Venus, in medieval Nottingham, a suburban home, 1814 Washington, a farm, the old West, and the Briar Patch.
Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Beetle Bailey, Killer Diller, Flash Gordon, Queen Vicki, Robin Hood, Little John, Maid Marion
Listen for: Killer Diller being put to work picking up leaves, and the Comic Weekly Man's announced promise to return next week.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
