What happens
The Comic Weekly Man reads a children's comic weekly aloud on the radio, drawing on the pages of Puck the Comic Weekly. The first comic is Hopalong Cassidy, in which Hoppy and his friends rescue a telegraph man from a river, only to find that his sister, Gayle Sparks, has turned on them. Her camp of telegraph workers attacks the strangers, who are left outnumbered and unconscious under the workers' rage. The reading moves on to other strips, including Prince Valiant, Donald Duck, Dick's Adventures, Rusty Riley, Blondie, Roy Rogers and Flash Gordon.
A radio broadcast in which the Comic Weekly Man reads the funnies from Puck the Comic Weekly to children, with stories set in the American West, medieval Britain, a family home, early America and outer space.
Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Hopalong Cassidy, Gayle Sparks, Prince Valiant, Arf, Donald Duck, Dewey, Dick
Listen for: The Hopalong Cassidy strip, which ends with the strangers surrounded by angry telegraph workers and the girl's brother still unconscious.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
