What happens

The Comic Weekly Man reads the funnies to a young listener, Miss Honey, as Christmas approaches. He reads a Snookums story in which Archie, taking a little boy into town, handcuffs him to himself and dresses in a junior policeman's outfit to keep him safe. Next comes a Flash Gordon episode in which Flash and Dale face a deadly ordeal in a pool of mad fish, followed by a Roy Rogers adventure in which Roy rescues a boy fleeing a shooting man at a deserted fort. A Dick's Adventures tale puts Dick in Philadelphia in 1776, where he meets Benjamin Franklin. Rusty Riley learns of smugglers, and the program also includes Dagwood and Blondie, Donald Duck, and Prince Valiant, where a castle is under attack.

A radio broadcast in the days leading up to Christmas, with comic strip stories read aloud in the Comic Weekly Man's home-visit style, set in a variety of places from a town street to a space planet, the American frontier, 1776 Philadelphia, a coastal inlet, and a medieval castle.

Characters: Comic Weekly Man, Miss Honey, Archie, Snookums, Flash Gordon, Dale, Roy Rogers, Dick

Listen for: Listen for Archie's handcuffing idea in the Snookums story, the ladder Donald builds in the Donald Duck strip, and the cliffhanger at the end of the Roy Rogers adventure, where Roy must decide whether to jump into the river after the boy.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
