What happens
George Burns and Gracie Allen host a New Year's broadcast of their radio series, trading nonsense banter about holiday revelry with Henry King and his orchestra. Tony Martin appears as a guest, and the cast talks about his new visit to New York. Gracie describes a sightseeing tour Constance Wilson gave Tony, and the talk turns to a mink coat he reportedly bought her. Gracie insists on a kiss from Tony Martin as part of a resolution, while the regulars keep up their playful confusion. The episode was broadcast on CBS and NBC radio on January 6, 1937, and features Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc in the cast.
A New York radio broadcast studio at the start of the new year, with the show's characters talking about New York and Hollywood.
Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Henry King, Tony Martin, Constance Wilson
Listen for: Gracie's literal-minded wordplay during the mink coat discussion, and the running joke about Tony Martin's kiss.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
