What happens

George and Gracie walk home through the park after a movie and find a sleeping man on their bench, whom Gracie identifies as Eddie Cantor. Eddie explains that his five married daughters and their families have moved back into his house, leaving him with nowhere to sleep. Gracie and George suggest that Eddie's daughter Marilyn marry Meredith Wilson, who has a spare bed. The plan sets off a chain of housing arrangements, with more and more people needing somewhere to stay. This is an episode of the Burns and Allen series, first broadcast on October 3, 1946, with George Burns, Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc in the cast.

A city park at night, then the homes of George and Gracie and Meredith Wilson.

Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Eddie Cantor, Meredith Wilson, Marilyn, Janet, Bill

Listen for: Gracie's logic as the housing arrangements keep shifting, and Eddie Cantor's complaints about his crowded household.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
