What happens
George Burns and Gracie Allen run their household as usual one Tuesday morning, with George feeling unwell and reluctant to go to the office. Gracie's friend Nigel Bowling-Broke wants a place for his school of drama and culture, and she offers her home. When William Bendix arrives looking for old friends from Brooklyn, Gracie pulls him into her plans as a pupil and charges him for lessons. The lessons grow more absurd, with Gracie's suggestions on manners and singing, while George's health and the shower routine become part of the mix. The episode is a 1944 Burns and Allen program on CBS and NBC Radio, with the Burns and Allen series regulars, guest William Bendix, and cast members Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc in the lineup.
The Burns house, a Tuesday morning and afternoon, where Gracie sets up a culture school in the living room.
Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, William Bendix, Nigel Bowling-Broke, Bill Goodwin
Listen for: Gracie's logic as she persuades William Bendix that culture lessons will make him a gentleman, and the running gags about Brooklyn and Ronald Colman.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
