What happens
George Burns is unaware that his wife Gracie Allen's women's club, the Beverly Hills Uplift Society, is meeting in the den of his house. When Gracie recruits a wealthy new member, the opera singer Madame de Silva, to help pay the club's debts of $112.14, the club hopes she will pay the debt in exchange for a place on the radio program. Madame de Silva agrees to pay only if she can sing a duet with a baritone on the show. Bill Goodwin is talked into singing with her, while George is tricked into believing he is too sick to perform. The episode is from Burns and Allen, a series broadcast on radio in 1946, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc among its cast.

Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Bill Goodwin, Meredith Wilson, Madame de Silva, Blanche Martin, Francis Fowler
Listen for: Gracie persuading the club to recruit the wealthy Madame de Silva, and the club's scheme to get George off the show
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
