What happens
Gracie Allen writes a musical comedy about King Henry VIII and his six wives, and George Burns and the cast rehearse it on the Burns and Allen show. Gracie casts George as Henry and herself in every one of his queens' roles, while the rehearsal turns into a string of wordplay and jokes. Prince Basil is brought in as a rival suitor, and the queen's fate is put to the king. The broadcast is from the 1940 Burns and Allen series, first aired November 11, 1940, on CBS and NBC Radio, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc among the cast.
A radio studio rehearsal of a musical comedy about the court of King Henry VIII.
Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, King Henry VIII, Prince Basil, Queen Catherine, Royal Advisor
Listen for: Gracie's rapid, nonsensical logic when she explains her musical and recasts the role of Henry's six wives.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
