What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen return to New York from a two-week absence and share their homecoming with their regular cast, including Ted Husing, Milton Watson and Jack Benny's orchestra leader Meredith Willson. Gracie keeps trying to fit Campbell's tomato juice into the conversation, and George keeps mocking her brother Ike's habits and the family stories she tells. A talent scout named Mr. Kling arrives and asks Milton Watson to read a scene. Gracie insists on playing Sadie Thompson herself, with George as the trader and Milton as the Reverend Davidson. The scene is read aloud with sound effects, and Mr. Kling reacts with praise and offers Jack Bernard a contract.

Listen for: Gracie reading the part of Sadie Thompson in the mock scene, and Mr. Kling's reaction to Jack Bernard's reading.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
