What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen star in this Maxwell House Coffee Time episode, first broadcast on November 20, 1947. Gracie, dazzled by the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, asks George to stay home and listen with her, but George prefers a poker game with his friends Bill, Dr. Miller, Mr. Judson and Meredith Wilson. Gracie falls asleep by the radio and begins to dream about a wedding of her own, while the poker game goes on in the Burns home. The evening's comedy turns on George's mix of wit and confusion as the friends try to settle the game and the household's plans for the night.

The Burns home, on the night of the royal wedding broadcast

Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Bill Goodwin, Dr. Miller, Mr. Judson, Meredith Wilson

Listen for: Gracie's dream sequence during the royal wedding broadcast, and the running poker-game jokes between George and his friends

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
