What happens
George Burns is sued for $200,000 by Elsie Trelawney Fass, a girl he allegedly promised to put on the radio, and he prepares to defend himself in court. Gracie Allen coaches him on how a character witness should speak, and Gracie's assistant Artie Shaw agrees to testify. On the way to the courthouse, George's car collides with another driver, and the judge is delayed, so George tries to avoid being recognized by the judge who will hear his case. The Burns and Allen series features this comedy on CBS and NBC Radio, first aired on September 2, 1940, with Gracie Allen and George Burns in the lead, along with Bea Benaderet and Meredith Willson.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
