What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen return from a Navy broadcast in San Diego, and their chatter turns to a black eye George has come home with. Gracie keeps pressing him for the story, and George offers a series of increasingly absurd explanations. The episode, from the Burns and Allen show on CBS and NBC Radio, first aired on December 9, 1940, with Gracie Allen and George Burns in the leads. The pair are sponsored by Hormel and Spam, and much of the broadcast is given over to the product. The transcript breaks off partway through the tale of their trip.

Hollywood, California, and later San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico

Characters: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Ollie

Listen for: George's explanations for his black eye, and Gracie's reactions to each one

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
