What happens

George Burns and Gracie Allen run a household where Gracie wants a new Easter hat and George refuses to pay for it. Gracie turns to the ladies of the Beverly Hills Uplift Society for help, and they plan a scheme to shame George into giving her the money. The episode is from the Burns and Allen series, originally aired April 3, 1947 on CBS and NBC Radio, with Gracie Allen, Bea Benaderet, Meredith Willson and Mel Blanc among the cast. The first part of the story follows the couple's squabbling over the hat, the rumours that spread through town, and the club's attempts to bring George around.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
