What happens

Detective Danny Clover receives a key from jockey Silks Bergen to retrieve a personal check from a locker at LaGuardia airport terminal. When Clover later encounters the mysterious Marty at a hotel, he is confronted about his conversation with Silks Bergen and finds himself drawn into a dangerous situation involving threats and guns. Clover loses consciousness and awakens to find himself in a hotel room with a man named Gil Sherry, who speaks cryptically about money, detectives, and a corpse.
